Academy of Maritime Education and Training (AMET) University 11th Annual Convocation – 24.01.2022

The Academy of Maritime Education and Training (AMET), Deemed to be University for Maritime Education, established in India in the year 2007, conducted its 11th Annual Convocation on 24thJanuary 2022in aBlended Mode, due to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic.

Col. Dr. G. Thiruvasagam, the Vice-Chancellor of the University introduced the Chief Guest, the Special Invitee, and other dignitaries including the managing Trustees and members of the Board of Management.He also welcomed the participants and presented the Annual Report in which he stated some of the most noteworthy outcomes.

Dr. J. Ramachandran, the dynamic Founder-Chancellor of the University, presided over the Convocation and conducted the graduation ceremony.

Shri. Amitabh Kumar IRS, D.G. Shipping, Govt. of India participated in the Convocation as a Special Invitee. He was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate Degree (Honoris Causa)in Management and a Citation in recognition of his meritorious service and rich contribution to the Maritime Sector by the Chancellor. He delivered his Acceptance Speech upon being conferred with the honorary doctorate. He said that although faced with numerous challenges throughout his career, divine guidance and the support of his family was a great help. He added that as a leader giving up was not an option and he encouraged potential leaders to keep this in mind. He also encouraged finding solutions to problems at hand.

AFelicitation Addresswas delivered by Dr. Rajesh Ramachandran, the Pro Chancellor of AMET. He urgedthegraduands to continue with lifelong learning and practicing which would always keep them updated and assist them in their careers and give them a better life style. He also advised them to carry the value of education received at AMET and to implement it in their workplaces.

Capt. Sartaj Gill, Global Director-Culture & Competence, V.Group, graced the occasion with his presence as Chief Guest and delivered the Convocation address.

He recognized the support of the Parents and Faculty as Mentors in the lives of the passing out Cadets. He spoke about his own maritime journey that began 27 years before, when he entered AMET in 1994 as a student of the first batch of HND Nautical Studies. He shared important life lessons such as - how little things in life matter, the importance of being compassionate and showing empathy, on why one must dream big and be resilient to achieve the best things in life, on how one must strive for excellence and success would follow, and the importance of discipline, commitment &consistency. He also mentioned the importance of being a curious learner, embracing teamwork and collaboration, taking ownership, being a leader, and adjust your Compass and course whenever required.

The Chancellor distributed degrees to 1344 graduates following which he also administered the Pledge, conferred the Degrees and signed the Register of Graduates. Finally, he announced the Dissolution of the Convocation and the National Anthem was rendered.
