A
Mini Sethusamudram project is under construction which will facilitate movement
of naval vessels to move from Palk Bay to Gulf of Mannar without having to
circumnavigate through Sri Lanka.
Through New railway bridge naval
vessels could move from Tamil Nadu to Kerala coast
The
New railway bridge under construction from Pamban to Rameshwaram by Rail Vikas
Nigam limited provides for lift on bridge with 45 meters width through which
the naval vessels could move from Tamil Nadu to Kerala coast. The sea below the
bridge is being dredged to make available ten meters draft for movement of
small vessels Captain Anbarasan of the Tamil Nadu state Maritime board said
while addressing the Maritime PPP conclave 2022 at Chennai.
The
ferry service between India and Sri Lanka which remains suspended for nearly
forty years is being revived with the construction of new passenger jetty between
Rameshwaram and Dhanushkodi.
The detailed project report for the
jetty is being prepared by Indian Institute of technology Madras.
The
distance between the proposed jetty on the Indian side and Talaimannar is
around 26 nautical miles and boats carrying 250to 300 passengers with 30 knot
speed will cover the distance between the two countries within one hour he
said.
