The agitating fishermen’s principal demand is that construction work in the adani port project at Vizhinjam should be stopped and a proper environment impact study be conducted to evaluate the cause of massive sea erosion in the area since the port project commenced

CPIM led government in Kerala has however rejected the demand to stop the construction and said the agitation is sponsored by outsiders. Singhur and Nandigram is being reenacted here says the protestors referring the left party supporting the Tata’s Nano automobile project in West bengal against the agitating farmers. The outsider bogey was also raised in Bengal but finally the farmers demands were met and the automobile plant was shunted out they said.

The stand-off between the protesting fisherman folks and the state government has intensified as the second round of talks over feasible land acquisition and environmental impact study on coastal erosion has failed. The protesters have demanded that a study needs to be conducted by scientists recommended by the people in the coastal regions on the coastal erosion phenomenon
