A Chinese bulk carrier
that was holed by ice off Russia’s Sakhalin island sank 1 March.
The forepeak of the Yong Xing 56 was breached over the weekend, with the bow of the ship becoming submerged.
Despite salvors best efforts, the vessel, carrying 29,000 tons of alumnia, sank in waters of around 250 m depth.
The 21 Chinese crew of the 15-year-old ship were
safely evacuated from the ship with Chinese consular staff now working to get them repatriated.
