Congestion reported at Nhava Sheva

Congestion reported at Nhava Sheva

As per the concession agreement, GTI is carrying out repairs and replacement of gantry cranes, which has reduced capacity at the terminal. This is expected to continue until October/November. The number of services calling the terminal has reportedly come down.

The other terminals are also facing congestion resulting from increased volumes, reports said.

As a result of the congestion, move counts are limited and carriers will discharge import containers before loading exports. Cut and run, as well as roll-overs, are possible.

Some carriers may discharge imports at alternate ports. Export gate-in times may be reduced and waiting times may increase due to road congestion. Additionally, shortage of containers is possible as empty discharge from vessels will be limited, it was informed.

Import containers impacted

Meanwhile, according to trade sources, buffer movement is not happening at the Centralized Parking Plaza which is leading to congestion in the movement of containers.

Import containers are taking 5-6 days to enter the various CFSs, which is further delaying clearance of import consignments and increasing the transaction cost.
