With the VOC Port Tuticorin reduced to the status of a feeder port,
one of its container terminals has started receiving liner vessels carrying raw
cashew from the West African state of Ghana on a regular basis to save the
local industry from paying transshipment charges at Colombo port.
The assiduous efforts the liner vessel MSC and the Dakshin Bharat
Gateway terminal operating out of VOC Port Tuticorin, to attract direct call to
Tuticorin Port during the West Africa cashew season has come to fruition when a liner vessel MV MSC Vidhi came calling at the port on
March 15th. The call by the liner vessel is considered a boon for the raw
cashew importers since they could save the transshipment which they would
shelling out at Colombo port otherwise.
Dakshin Bharat Gateway Terminal once again
splendidly accommodated MV. MSC VIDHI with LOA 277m arrived from Tema / Ghana
according to a terminal press release
As usual, MSC takes the lead in deploying adhoc calls at DBGT to
fulfil the customer needs. Incidentally, this was the second call for MSC VIDHI
at DBGT during the last one year. The vessel had called at the port on March 20th
last year during the last cashew season Raw cashew is imported from the west African
countries by the processing industry based in Tuticorin.
The VOC Port administration Tuticorin and the terminal operator DBGT
always try to promote Raw Cashew imports as it is one of the Major import
cargos for Tuticorin Trade fraternity. The prevailing Vessel Related Charges
incentive scheme offered by the VOC Port administration is one of the major
factors which has persuaded liner vessels like the MSC to make such ad hoc
calls at the port
To commemorate the occasion, a low-key
ceremony was organized by DBGT onboard the vessel, during which the Master of the vessel
was presented with a Memento. The Terminal Management thanked MSC for their
valuable and aggressive support for the Raw Cashew Trade by deploying bigger
vessels directly from the Port of Origin.
MV. MSC VIDHI is having capacity of 5770 TEU’s, arrived directly from
Tema / Ghana, with total throughput of 615 Crane Moves at Tuticorin and is
bound for Abu Dhabhi (UAE) as next
port. The vessel arrived and berthed at DBGT on March 15th
DBGT Management thanked the efforts of VOC Port Authority, MSC Agency
(India) Pvt. Ltd., and DBGT Team for this achievement.
