at Marmugoa Port remained crippled for the past three years since the Harbor
mobile crane at the port is not functional during this period, the state
chamber of commerce has protested to Goa government last week according to
Media reports Even as the Goa government is
in the process of drafting for the first time a Logistics Policy, the Goa
Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has drawn the attention to the fact
that Harbor mobile crane (HMC) at the Mormugao Port that is not working for the
past three years and because of which container services at the port are at a
standstill.
Submitting suggestions on the
draft Goa Logistics Policy 2023, GCCI pointed out that the Harbour Mobile Crane (HMC) at the Vasco
port had broken down in 2020, and the port authority which had assured that a
tender will be floated for a new crane, has still not acted upon its promise.
The absence of the HMC has
led to diversion of container cargo to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in
Navi Mumbai creating an extra load on road traffic, said GCCI. The industry body also
flagged the poor condition of Chorla Ghat road leading to Karnataka from the
Port which is adding to the Exporters’ woes.
