Decks have been cleared for Doubling of Railway track from the
Marmugoa Port to Northern Karnataka with Goa’s land acquisition authority
dismissing objections to the infrastructure project between Kulem and Vasco and
on environmental grounds.
Kulem
to Vasco is near the entrance of the port from where the doubling of railway
tracks commences to evacuate iron ore for the steel
mills in Northern Karnataka. The authority has dismissed all objections raised
on environmental grounds paving the way for acquisition of 0.9985 hectares of
land in villages situated near the entrance of the Port.
The Office of Dy Collector and Sub Divisional Officer, Vasco Da
Gama has issued a public notice announcing the award of required land for the
Special Railway Project of Hospet – Hubli – Tinaighat – Vasco-da-Gama doubling,
in Goa. The project is being executed by Rail Vikas Nigal Limited(RNVL).
The
land is proposed to be acquired by the Ministry of Railways South Western
Railway (Construction Organisation), Government of India, under the Railway
Act, 1989 for the public purpose of doubling of railway track from Kulem to
Vasco-da-Gama.
Dy. Collector & S.D.O., Mormugao has been appointed as the
Competent Authority’ to perform the acquisition of such area as specified in
the notification for the Special Railway project.
As per South Western Railway statistics 75.16 per cent of the
352.58 Km Hospet -Hubli-Londa-Vasco-da-gama double tracking work has been
completed. The cost of the 100 per cent Railway Funded Project is put at Rs
3692.60 crore.The Land acquisition authority rejects all 20 objections to
double tracking raised on objection ground on Kulem to Vasco line
A total 26 objections were raised by citizens with regards to proposed land
acquisition notification for double tracking of Kulem to Vasco-da-Gama rail
route. Of these 26 objections, 20 were
pertaining to environmental issues and probable increase of ore transportation
after railway doubling.
