Chennai has direct air connectivity to Myanmar’s capital Yangon when
Myanmar airways international has launched the weekly service.
Chennai’s airport director S.S. Raju, and Prof. J. Ranganathan, Honorary
Consul of Myanmar lighted the ceremonial
lamp to inaugurate the new flight connection in the presence of senior
officials, stakeholders and first passengers.
The Myanmar Airways flight operating on Saturdays, will depart from
Yangon at 0800hrs and arrive in Chennai
at 1015 hrs and will depart from Chennai
at 1115 hrs to arrive in Yangon at 1515hrs on its return leg.
Myanmar Airlines has deployed its Embraer
(E190) aircraft on this sector, with a total of 98 seats, adopting the configuration of 6 business
class seats and 92 economy class seats.
The inaugural flight to Chennai was accorded the customary water cannon
salute. The first arrival to Chennai had 48 passengers on board while 70
passengers departed to Yangon.
The new flight connection is aimed to mutually benefit and improve
trade, heath and leisure tourism sectors of both countries. With the launch of
this new route, travellers from Chennai can now easily and conveniently travel
to Yangon, which is known for its rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes,
and delicious cuisine.
