With this, the terminal will
resume operations on both the berths. The
terminal went through its future proofing project aptly titled as “Fit for
Future”, under which the terminal invested in infrastructure development.
Commissioning of new cranes
will enable the terminal to accommodate and turn around larger vessels safely
and quickly. Currently the civil work is ongoing for extending
terminal’s south bridge and installing dolphin moors which will be completed
early next year, thereby increasing the container handling capacity of GTI by
10% to 2.18 million TEUs.
The Inauguration was done by Shri Sanjay Sethi – The chairman of JNPA in
presence of Shri UnmeshWagh- Dpt. Chairman of JNPA, Mr. RajibBhowal – CEO of
GTI, Mr. SunayMukerjee-COO of GTI and other dignitaries from JNPA, CASF and GTI
colleagues.
Commenting on this occasion, Mr. SunayMukerjee, COO – GTI said
“In our endeavour to provide the best service to our customers, it was
inevitable that we upgrade our infrastructure to cater to the larger vessels
safely and efficiently at our terminal. I congratulate and thank team GTI for
working relentlessly within limited resources to serve our customers during the
project. Safety is our license to operate, and I am proud that we
completed more than 1 million safe man hours on this project. My heartfelt
gratitude to our customers and stake holders for their trust, support, and
cooperation during the future proofing project. We are keen to welcome larger vessels and we ensure to turn around the
vessels safely and efficiently to support Indian trade.”
Shri Sanjay Sethi (IAS) Hon’ble Chairman of Jawaharlal Nehru Port
