Japan Coast Guard Ship Yashima has arrived at Chennai
port on January 10th. The ship is scheduled to participate in Joint Exercise planned with Indian Coast
Guard codenamed “SahyogKaijin†which will be held at sea off the coast of
Chennai on January 12th.
This Joint Exercise is being coordinated by Headquarters,
Coast Guard Region East headed by Inspector General Donny Michael, TM Upon
arrival at Chennai Port, the Japan Coast Guard ship was given a ceremonial
welcome in a traditional way by the delegation of Indian Coast Guard. NCC cadets
of Naval Wing and school students from local schools were also present during
the welcome ceremony. A decorated ceremonial band played the tunes to further
extend the warm welcome to JCG ship.
During the four day stay at Chennai, Japan
Coast Guard Ship Yashima will be participating in a number of activities including official calls, reciprocal
visits onboard ships, sporting, cultural interactions and professional
interactions between personnel of both the Coast Guards. The Commanding Officer
of Japan Coast Guard ship, Yashima, Captain Yuichi Motoyama called on Inspector
General Donny Michael, TM Commander, Coast Guard Region East at ICG Regional
Headquarters at Chennai on 10 Jan 24.
A friendly volleyball match between teams
of Indian Coast Guard and Japan Coast Guard Ship Yashima was conducted on 10
Jan 24 at indoor Stadium, NellaiNadarHigher Secondary School, Kotivakkam,
Chennai. A warm
welcoming ceremony for the visiting volleyball team was conducted by the Scouts
and Guides of the School. The match was played with utmost zeal, promoted
jointmenship and the values of true sportsmanship.
The visit of Japan Coast Guard ship is part of Memorandum
of Cooperation (MoC) signed between India and Japan in 2006, to promote
interaction between the two Coast Guard organizations, including High Level
Visits, Annual Joint Exercises, training exchanges and participation in short
term workshops/seminars.
