After Cochin it is the turn of MurmugoaPort to develop a
ship repair facility at its port premises in collaboration with the Goa ship
Yard. The port plans
to user one of its berths to organize ship repair facility
The port is currently considering sharing the cost of
putting up the facility with the state owned Goa ship yard. The ports berth
number nine has been identified as the one where the
facility would come up. It will be a ship repair cut refit facility according
to
media reports. The
collaboration arrangement betweenMormugoa Port and Goa ship yard is expected to
be forged by the end of
this month.
As per the proposal under consideration berth number nine will be leased
out for a period of 30 years.
MPA plans to offer 200-250 meters of waterfront area at berth no. 9 to the
defense sector shipyard. GSL’s existing facility limits further expansion and
the shipyard is unable to bid for construction of larger vessels as it does not
have the depth and area at its current location.
GSL is eager to build larger and more warships
for the export market.
