Elon Musk’s Starlink Offers 2-Month Free Internet Service to IMO Registered Ships

The internet service has been offered to vessels with a registered IMO number. Such vessels can apply to receive an exclusive deal where users can access two months of accessible and a five-terabyte-a-month mobile priority facility to get a trial run of the tech. This offer will be valid until March 1, 2024.

The resellers of Starlink service are providing the service. Now, the user terminal for a link with Starlink satellites costs about $2000, and the five-terabyte-a-month service is rated at $5000 a month. Therefore, the offer for free Internet for two months is worth about $10,000.

It is essential to note that even though the user terminal isn’t offered for free, there’s a refund for the terminal being provided if the customer considers returning to the terminal once the trial period is over.

They boast up to 200 Mbps, and top names in the shipping industry like MOL, Hapag Lloyd, NYK, and Maersk have signed up for the Starlink service. The new trial offering for the internet service will likely garner Starlink a much higher market share.

Bjorn Hojgaard, the CEO of Anglo-Eastern, one of the first-ever adopters of Starlink in the industry, mentions that soon, the seafarers will enjoy the same connectivity that all are accustomed to ashore. He added that the vessel will turn out to be a smooth extension of the office, whereby the team members get closer to the machinery.
