Despite Dali and Baltimore Bridge collision, all crew safe

Despite the collapse, there have been no injuries or pollution reported. Maryland governor Wes Moore declared a state of emergency to mobilize federal resources for the crisis

Immediate rescue efforts were launched after the incident which is described by the Baltimore City Fire Dept as a “mass-casualty, multi-agency event” likely to extend over several days. The Dali, a Singapore-flagged vessel owned by Grace Ocean Pte Ltd, is 948 feet (289 meters) long and was carrying 4,679 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) of cargo.

The collision led to suspension of the traffic at the port. While the flow of containers to Baltimore can likely be redistributed to larger ports, there may be major disruptions in shipping cars, coal, and sugar.

The Port of Baltimore the busiest U.S. port for car shipments, handling at least 750,000 vehicles in 2023 is also the second busiest port for coal exports.
