India’s Trucking Sector Grapples with Shortage amid Driver Exodus

The underlying cause seems to be a mass exodus of drivers; many have gone back to their villages for some domestic functions like weddings or more importantly to perform their national duty: to vote; with the result, many vehicles lie idle without drivers

 Driver scarcity is a long pending issue in the supply chain industry both internationally and nationally as well.

A primary reason for the ongoing exodus is the arduous conditions under which truck drivers operate across the country. The dearth of adequate infrastructure along highways, including facilities for rest, sanitation, sustenance, and parking, perpetuates a sense of insecurity among drivers, who grapple with concerns not only for their cargo but also for their own safety and well-being.
