The JNPT–Vaitarna stretch is a critical segment of the
WDFC, aimed at strengthening seamless rail connectivity from Jawaharlal Nehru
Port Authority to the hinterland. During the meeting, detailed discussions were
held on the current status of civil works, track laying, electrification, and
system integration. Emphasis was laid on accelerating execution while
maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
Key implementation
challenges, including land-related issues, interface coordination, and resource
mobilization, were reviewed, with directions issued to ensure swift resolution
through close coordination among all stakeholders. The contractor was advised
to enhance deployment of manpower and machinery to meet targeted timelines.
The MD/DFCCIL reiterated the strategic importance of
the WDFC in boosting freight efficiency, reducing logistics costs, and
supporting port-led development under the Government of India’s infrastructure
vision. He stressed adherence to milestone-based monitoring and proactive
planning to ensure timely commissioning of the section.
Once operational,
the JNPT–Vaitarna section is expected to significantly enhance cargo evacuation
capacity from JNPT, decongest existing rail networks, and contribute to faster,
more reliable freight movement across the western corridor.
