The new route is
expected to provide exporters and importers with improved access to markets
across Saudi Arabia and the wider Red Sea region, while offering more efficient
transit options for containerized cargo moving between South Asia and the
Gulf.Industry stakeholders said the service will enhance supply chain
reliability and create additional capacity for a wide range of commodities,
including consumer goods, chemicals, engineering products, textiles, food
products and industrial cargo. The direct connection is also expected to
support growing trade flows between India and Saudi Arabia, one of India’s key
trading partners in West Asia. Mundra Port, India’s largest commercial port,
serves as a major gateway for container, bulk and breakbulk cargo and has
steadily expanded its network of international shipping services. The addition
of Jeddah further strengthens the port’s connectivity to strategic markets in
the Middle East, Africa and Europe.
Jeddah, located on the Red Sea coast, is Saudi
Arabia’s principal commercial port and a vital logistics hub linking trade
routes across Asia, Africa and Europe. Enhanced maritime connectivity between
Mundra and Jeddah is expected to facilitate faster cargo movement and improve
access to regional distribution networks.
The launch comes at a time when shipping lines are
seeking to optimize service networks and strengthen trade corridors amid
evolving global supply chain requirements. Improved connectivity is expected to
benefit exporters by providing additional routing options and greater
flexibility in reaching overseas markets.
Trade experts noted
that stronger maritime links between India and Saudi Arabia align with growing
bilateral trade and investment ties. The new service is expected to support
cargo growth, improve logistics efficiency and contribute to the development of
regional supply chains. With trade volumes between India and the Gulf region
continuing to expand, the Mundra–Jeddah connection is poised to play an
important role in facilitating commerce and enhancing the competitiveness of
exporters and importers operating across the corridor.
