53rd National Safety Week 2024 inaugurated at DPA

The 53rd National Safety Week commenced on March 4, 2024, in India. This week-long safety campaign, observed from March 4 to March 10, 2024, focuses on the theme of "Safety Leadership for ESG Excellence" The strategic integration of safety practices with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles underscores the importance of safety in various domains.

 

As part of the inauguration, Defence Minister Ajay Bhat inaugurated the coast guard jetty at Vadinar2. This event serves as a reminder of the critical role safety plays in our lives and workplaces. Let us all strive for safety excellence and contribute to a safer environment for everyone

 

 

The inauguration ceremony of the 53rd National Safety Week 2024 was marked by a gracious presence of guests. A traditional lamp lighting by S.K. Mehta, IFS, Chairman was done in the presence of Nandeesh Shukla, IRTS, Dy. Chairman, J.K. Rathod, CPES, Chief Vigilance Officer, senior officials of Port, Trade Unions, Stakeholders, Port Users, employees & workers.

BhaveshMadhavi, Safety Officer delivered the welcome speech, leading a safety pledge, and providing an overview of the week’s activities, which included Virtual Reality Safety training , Safety competitions, a Mega Medical Campaign, Hazardous Material Handling Training, Safety Film Shows, a Mega Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Distribution Campaign, Firefighting drills, and a Safety Award Ceremony on the final day. Priyabrata Shaw, Add. Asst. Director Dock Safety, Kandla, shared valuable insights on “Focus on Safety Leadership for ESG Excellence.”

Nandeesh Shukla, IRTS, Dy. Chairman emphasized the need for strategic prevention of all types of accidents within the port, while S.K. Mehta, IFS, Chairman focused on achieving a zero-accident target as part of Maritime India Vision 2030. The Chairman suggested implementing motivation/recognition schemes for personnel and taking punitive actions against safety norm violators. He also advised to take the safety suggestions from all the stake holders in closing ceremony for development of road map for achieving the target of zero accident.

The event concluded with key safety notes from both leaders and a vote of thanks by Sudipta Banerjee, Sr. Deputy Traffic Manager. The Chairman inaugurated the “Virtual Reality Safety Training” campaign stall and personally experienced the work-at-height module. The program highlighted a commitment to safety excellence and collaborative efforts for a zero-harm target.
