IMC & IPPTA Hosted Workshop on Policy Interventions for Speedy Resolution of Issues in the Indian Maritime Sector

Indian Maritime Centre (IMC), in collaboration with the Indian Private Ports & Terminals Association (IPPTA), successfully organized a landmark workshop on “Policy Interventions Required for Speedy Resolution of Current Issues in the Indian Maritime Sector” at Aurika Hotel, Mumbai.

The event brought together key leaders, policymakers, and senior representatives from across the maritime ecosystem for a highly productive evening of dialogue and collaboration.

The workshop participants were welcomed by Mr Devki Nandan, Chairman of IMC, and President of IPPTA. In his opening remark, Mr Devki Nandan highlighted that this first unified workshop is being organized to establish a single platform for all industry stakeholders to collectively discuss current challenges, practical solutions, and develop recommendations that support India’s maritime growth agenda. The initiative aimed to facilitate informed policy action and promote operational excellence across the sector. This collaborative workshop will add immense value to the dialogue underscoring the unified commitment of India’s maritime community towards creating a more efficient, competitive, and progressive maritime ecosystem.

This major workshop was addressed by Shri Gaurav Dayal, IAS, Chairman, JNPA, Shri Rajiv Jalota (Retd. IAS), Advisor, IPA, Shri Sushil Mansingh Khopde , Additional D.G., Shri P K Mishra, MD IRS Capt Deepak Tiwari, Managing Director of MSC India, Shri Pavitran M Kallade, Dy MD of PSA India, Shri Amit Kamat, President, FFFAI, Capt. Arun Mehta MD, OSM THOME, Capt. MP Bhasin, MD, Crewing Services, MSC, Capt Sunil Vaswani, ED CSLA and Shri Sudhir Mulagada, CEO, Kalinga International Coal Terminal.

The Speakers emphasized the need to further strengthen the ease of Doing Business, enhance the regulatory and investment mechanism for ship building and ship repair industry, issue of migration of existing port concessionaires to market driven tariff mechanism, accelerating port connectivity, streamlining Customs Procedures, strengthening digital connectivity, promoting cruise sector, welfare of seafarers, improving Indian tonnage, green power, reducing the logistics costs, need to promote competitiveness rather than over regulation of the Industry creating an invigorating business system.

IMC team will compile all the industry issues & their possible practical solutions, and suggest to further related stakeholders for resolving of the issues.
