The formation of ARC
brings together more than a century of industry advocacy under one
organisation, with the new body representing retailers ranging from small,
family-owned businesses to large national brands.
“ARC brings together the collective strength and
expertise of two respected institutions into a single, powerful voice that
represents every retailer – from family-owned businesses to iconic national
brands,” said Chris Rodwell, ARC CEO.
“Retail contributes $444 billion to the economy and
is our largest private sector employer, with a workforce of 1.4 million
people.”
The new organisation
has launched under the banner ‘Let’s talk shop’, positioning retail as a
central part of Australia’s communities and economic activity.
“Retail sits at the
heart of our communities,” said Rodwell. “We want to ‘talk shop’ with every
Australian, helping people better understand and engage with our members and
our industry. As such a critical sector, we’re determined to play a bigger role
in the national economic conversation.”
ARC will provide members with services including
workplace relations advice, legal and HR support, policy and advocacy, training
and skills development, research and market insights, and a national program of
events and conferences.
Rodwell said the
council also aims to promote retail as a long-term career pathway. “Retail also
offers extraordinary long-term career options, whether creating or evolving
brands, building new customer experiences, adopting AI or managing complex
supply chains,” he said.
A transitional board
made up of former ARA and NRA representatives has been appointed and will
remain in place until board elections are held in 2026. Nicole Sheffield has
been named chair of the ARC board, with Antony Moore appointed deputy chair.
The leadership team
includes Fleur Brown as Chief Industry Engagement and Marketing Officer, Glenn
Fahey as Chief Policy Officer and Chief Economist, Nathalie Rosette-Barber as
Chief Operating Officer, and Lindsay Carroll as Chief Legal and Industrial
Relations Officer.
