The vessel, MV VEGA DREAM, arrived at the port
carrying a cargo of 158,603 metric tonnes of limestone with a draft of 17.14
metres, underscoring the port’s capability to handle large Capesize vessels
efficiently.
The successful berthing of the vessel highlights the
port’s expanding infrastructure and its readiness to accommodate larger
vessels, strengthening its position as a key maritime gateway on India’s
eastern coast. The newly built berth has been designed to support higher cargo
volumes and improve operational efficiency.
Handling Capesize vessels enables the port to move significantly larger
quantities of cargo in a single shipment, helping customers achieve greater economies of scale and reduced
logistics costs. The development is also expected to facilitate a steady
flow of similar large limestone shipments in the future. The milestone reflects the port’s
continued investment in infrastructure upgrades aimed at enhancing cargo
handling capacity and supporting the growing needs of the steel, cement, and
industrial sectors that rely on bulk imports such as limestone.
With the successful handling of MV
VEGA DREAM, the port has taken another step toward strengthening its
role in India’s bulk cargo trade and providing more efficient logistics
solutions for its customers.
