During a meeting held in New Delhi on June 25, Suvidh
Shah, Additional Director General of the Federation of Indian Export
Organisations, met with Vithaya Xayavong, Ambassador of the Laos to
India. Rahul Singh, Assistant Director at FIEO, also participated in the
discussions. The meeting centered on
unlocking new opportunities to increase bilateral trade, which currently stands
at approximately USD 100–120 million
annually. Both sides identified several high-potential sectors for
future collaboration, including pharmaceuticals, engineering goods,
agricultural machinery, processed foods, and digital services. Officials also discussed initiatives aimed
at deepening commercial ties through trade delegations, business forums, B2B
matchmaking programmes, investment partnerships, and greater exchange of trade
opportunities between businesses in both countries. The discussions highlighted Laos’
strategic geographical position as a gateway to the Mekong region and mainland
Southeast Asia, offering significant opportunities for enhanced connectivity,
logistics, infrastructure development, and integration into regional value
chains. The engagement reflects
continued efforts by both nations to strengthen economic partnerships and
create new avenues for exporters and investors, supporting broader regional
trade and connectivity objectives.
