The vessel will be
constructed by China’s Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., with
delivery scheduled for 2028. Following delivery, the LNG carrier will be
deployed to transport LNG to Japan, supporting the country’s energy supply
requirements. Representatives from
MLNG, MISC and NYK attended the contract-signing ceremony held in Tokyo on
October 9, reaffirming their commitment to close cooperation to ensure the safe
and successful execution of the project.
The agreement highlights continued collaboration among Japanese and Malaysian
energy and shipping companies to strengthen LNG transportation capacity and
support long-term energy security.
For the NYK Group, the contract aligns with its medium-term management
plan, Sail Green, Drive Transformations 2026, which focuses on strengthening
existing core businesses while investing in new growth areas. NYK has identified LNG and liquefied
petroleum gas (LPG) carrier operations as key growth segments within its Energy
Business Division. The company plans to build on its experience, technical
expertise and global networks in LNG vessel ownership and management to support
reliable energy transportation.
The new charter is
expected to further strengthen cooperation between the companies while
contributing to the stable supply of energy to Japan.
