A committee will be
established by the Maharashtra government to carry out the goal to establish
Bhiwandi as Asia’s largest logistics hub. Industries Minister Uday Samant told
the Legislative Assembly that Bhiwandi East MLA Rais Shaikh and representatives
from the Industries and Urban Development Department would be on the committee.
MLA
Rais Shaikh brought Bhiwandi’s development as a logistics hub to the
government’s notice during the Assembly discussion. “The Bhiwandi Surrounding
Notified Area requires the appointment of an IAS officer. The combined area of 60 villages and Bhiwandi city is 144 square
kilometers, or 30% of Mumbai. The authority has all of the local bodies’ powers.
It is necessary to preserve the encroaching government land valued at Rs 3,000
crore. MLA Rais Shaikh of the Legislative Assembly stated, “Bhiwandi will have
the largest share in creating the state’s $1 trillion economy if the government
is serious about this issue.”
In response, Industries Minister
Uday Samant stated that Bhiwandi might become the site of Asia’s biggest
logistics hub. The government acknowledges the technical challenges, like
designating an IAS officer and regaining MMRDA’s authority. Thus, in response to MLA Rais
Shaikh’s request, we will assemble a four- or five-person committee with
representatives from the industries and urban development sectors. Once the
policy is finalized, we will proceed,” Minister Uday Samant declared.
