The Appointments Committee of
the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Gaurav Dayal, IAS (UP: 2004), as
the new Chairperson of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) in Navi Mumbai.
His five-year tenure, at the Joint Secretary level, reflects the government’s
continued push to strengthen leadership across India’s major ports under the
Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
An
officer with over two decades of administrative experience, Dayal has held key
roles in both state and central government. At JNPA, he is expected to drive
port modernization, operational efficiency, and sustainable growth, in line
with India’s broader maritime vision.
As
the country’s largest container port, JNPA is central to India’s logistics
ecosystem and global trade competitiveness.
Dayal’s appointment comes amid a national focus on port-led development,
digitalization, and the adoption of smart port management systems.
Industry
observers anticipate that under his leadership, JNPA will advance initiatives
to expand capacity, streamline cargo operations, and raise service standards to
global benchmarks. Stakeholders have welcomed his appointment, citing his
strong record in administrative reform and ability to deliver results in
complex operational environments.
With a clear five-year
mandate, Dayal’s stewardship is expected to reinforce JNPA’s strategic
importance, strengthen India’s maritime infrastructure, and contribute to the
nation’s long-term trade and logistics goals. The move underscores the government’s intent to
place experienced leadership at the helm of major ports to enhance their global
competitiveness and efficiency.
