The MoU was exchanged between Shri Susanta Kumar
Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson of V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, and Shri
Krishnababu N, Area Manager, Bureau Veritas, in the presence of Shri
Santosh Kumar Sarangi, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy
(MNRE).
Under the
partnership, Bureau Veritas will support VOC Port’s sustainability agenda
through initiatives including Green
Port Certification, greenhouse
gas (GHG) emissions verification, enhanced environmental management
systems, and the implementation of international best practices aimed at
reducing the environmental footprint of port operations. The collaboration is expected to
strengthen VOC Port’s efforts to improve operational sustainability, boost
environmental performance, and align with India’s broader maritime
decarbonization and renewable energy goals.
Officials said the agreement represents another
important milestone in VOC Port’s journey toward becoming a greener, more
efficient, and future-ready maritime gateway. The initiative also reinforces
the port’s commitment to sustainable growth while supporting the development of
an environmentally responsible maritime ecosystem. The
partnership comes as Indian ports increasingly focus on reducing emissions,
adopting clean technologies, and integrating sustainability into infrastructure
development to meet global environmental standards and support long-term
economic growth.
