The Department for Promotion
of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has launched PM GatiShakti–Offshore, a
cutting-edge digital platform designed to facilitate integrated planning and
coordinated management of offshore projects such as wind farms, marine resource
exploration, and coastal infrastructure development.
Built as an extension of the
national PM GatiShakti Programme, the offshore platform provides a unified
geospatial interface that brings together critical datasets from multiple
central ministries and departments. This integration enables data-driven
decision-making for project planners, ensuring greater efficiency,
transparency, and environmental responsibility in offshore development.
According to DPIIT, the
initiative aims to strengthen India’s Blue Economy while supporting the
country’s transition toward green energy and sustainable coastal growth.
By
way of example, the platform can synchronize inputs from the Ministries of
Power, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Environment, and Telecommunications to plan
offshore transmission corridors more efficiently. For instance, in a proposed
High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) subsea cable link between the Indian
mainland and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, planners can use the platform to
assess optimal seabed conditions for cable laying while overlaying ecological
data—such as coral reefs, mangrove forests, and turtle nesting sites—to avoid
sensitive marine zones.
“PM GatiShakti–Offshore
represents a pioneering step toward holistic offshore infrastructure
development,” DPIIT said in a statement. “By integrating geospatial
intelligence and inter-ministerial coordination, the platform will help India
advance sustainable offshore growth while safeguarding marine ecosystems.”
