MASSA Maritime Academy-Chennai, expands horizons with the opening of New Academic Block

MASSA Maritime Academy, Chennai, marked a significant milestone on 12 December 2025 with the inauguration of its new Academic Extension Block.

The facility was inaugurated by Shri K. M. Rao, PO, MMD Chennai, in the presence of Capt. K. S. Budwal, Chairman – MTRF; Capt. M. P. Bhasin, Chairman – GC; Capt. S. M. Halbe, CEO – MASSA, Dr (Capt) Suresh Bhardwaj, Resident Director & Principal MASSA Maritime Academy Chennai, along with distinguished guests from the maritime fraternity.

The newly inaugurated wing has been developed to facilitate the introduction of new courses at the institute, including Master and Deck Officers Revalidation programmes, IGF Basic and Advanced courses, and additional value-added programmes to be implemented in line with the evolving requirements of member lines and the maritime industry.

The occasion also commemorated the Academy’s 10th Anniversary as a full-fledged Post-Sea Maritime Academy, celebrated at a special function held at Taj Wellington Mews, Chennai.

During the anniversary समारोह, MASSA felicitated Dr. Malini Shankar, IAS (Retd.), Vice Chancellor, Indian Maritime University (IMU), in recognition of her exceptional and lasting contribution to the maritime sector in India.

The event also honoured two long-serving members of the Academy for completing 10 years of dedicated service:

Mr. A. C. Patro, Vice Principal

Mr. Gunaseelan, Accountant

In addition, students who successfully cleared their Certificate of Competency (CoC) examinations in the first attempt were felicitated, acknowledging their academic excellence and commit.
