Under the
agreement, both entities will collaborate to enhance rail-linked container
evacuation and streamline cargo flows between PSA Mumbai Terminal and inland
destinations. The initiative is expected to reduce dependence on road
transport, lower transit time variability, and improve overall supply chain
reliability for exporters and importers. Logistics stakeholders said the
partnership aligns with India’s broader push to shift a greater share of
container cargo to rail, supporting cost efficiency and sustainability goals.
The arrangement is also expected to ease congestion at port gates and improve
terminal productivity through faster evacuation of loaded containers. Industry participants noted that improved
rail integration at major terminals such as PSA Mumbai is critical to handling
rising trade volumes and strengthening India’s position in global container
logistics networks.
