The decision follows a proposal submitted by the
Maritime Board’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), who highlighted the need for
closer coordination with Secretariat departments and other government offices
functioning from Amaravati. The government said the move would enhance
administrative efficiency and streamline decision-making related to port and
maritime development.
With the latest notification issued under the
provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board Act, the state government has
amended an earlier decision taken during the previous YSRCP administration,
which had designated Visakhapatnam as the headquarters of the Maritime Board.
In a related order,
the government has also approved the transfer of the offices of the CEO and the
Directorate of State Ports from Kakinada to Amaravati. The relocation will
include the movement of staff, official records, assets, and supporting
infrastructure. The CEO has been
directed to oversee the transition of administrative and financial systems to
Amaravati. As part of the shift, salaries and other expenditure related to the
Directorate of Ports will now be processed through the Pay and Accounts Office
at Mangalagiri/Vijayawada instead of the Kakinada District Treasury. Additionally, the Andhra Pradesh Centre for Financial Systems and
Services has been instructed to immediately map the audit and accounting
functions of the Directorate of Ports to the Pay and Accounts Office.
Officials stated
that relocating the Maritime Board headquarters to Amaravati would align the
organisation more closely with the state administration and facilitate better
coordination in planning and implementing port development projects across
Andhra Pradesh.
