The LNG transfer took place on 24 May 2026 at the Port of Naples.
Axpo said the operation was carried out in coordination with the Port System
Authority of the Central Tyrrhenian Sea, Terminal Napoli and the Port Authority
of Naples. This was the first LNG bunkering operation for a cruise ship in
Naples, and it adds to the growing use of LNG as a marine fuel in Italian
ports. The move supports wider efforts to cut emissions in shipping while
expanding port-side fuel infrastructure for cleaner vessel operations. The operation also shows that Italian ports
are steadily building capability for ship-to-ship LNG refuelling. Naples joins
other ports in Italy where LNG bunkering activity has begun to gain momentum,
especially for cruise and ferry segments.
