During a review visit to the port on Saturday,(27
June) Vijay Kumar laid the foundation stone for two key projects and
inaugurated four completed infrastructure facilities.
Among the
new projects, a covered storage shed within the wharf, being
developed at a cost of ₹8.65 crore, will provide modern covered
storage facilities for bulk and break-bulk cargo, boosting
cargo-handling efficiency and strengthening the port’s trade
competitiveness.
The second project, the ₹5.67-crore Panambur Beach
Road Beautification Project, will transform the port’s approach corridor
through landscaping, plantation, drainage improvements, retaining walls, and
aesthetic enhancements, creating a greener and more welcoming gateway to both
the port and Panambur Beach.
The Secretary also
inaugurated four completed infrastructure projects aimed at improving
operational efficiency and logistics. These include the ₹7.23-crore MDL Yard Road Network Project, featuring over 1.1 km
of concrete roads, drainage systems, and cargo support infrastructure to
facilitate future berth development. A ₹4.45-crore truck parking facility near
Thannirbhavi Road, capable of accommodating 90 trucks, was also
commissioned to ease congestion and streamline cargo movement. Additionally,
the ₹5.43-crore Baikampady Truck
Parking Terminal, with a
capacity of 50 trucks, was inaugurated alongside a ₹5.47-crore road
connecting NH-66 to the Baikampady Industrial Area, providing a
crucial freight corridor for industries and trade in the region. In a significant step towards strengthening
rail logistics, NMPA signed an agreement with Indian Port Rail and Ropeway
Corporation Ltd for the ₹56.23-crore
electronic interlocking project at the Panambur railway yard. The
project is expected to enhance rail safety, improve operational efficiency, and
increase the port’s rail-based cargo evacuation capacity. The occasion also
marked the launch of the AMRIT Pharmacy
Service, a healthcare initiative valued at ₹12 crore, which will provide employees, retirees, and the local community
with affordable access to life-saving medicines and essential healthcare
products. The latest investments
underscore NMPA’s continued focus on expanding infrastructure, improving
multimodal connectivity, and supporting growing cargo volumes while enhancing
public amenities around the port.
