The development
comes as the Kerala Government moves to develop Kollam Port under the
Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The Kerala Maritime Board (KMB) has
indicated that the proposed development could strengthen cargo movement and
connectivity among Kerala’s ports, while complementing Vizhinjam’s emerging
role as a major container gateway.
Kollam Port already has container-handling infrastructure, including a
40-foot container handling crane, reach stacker, forklift, weighing facilities
and a 10-acre container stacking yard, according to the KMB. A separate KMB proposal in 2025 had
envisaged converting the port’s existing warehouse into a Container Freight
Station (CFS) and common-user customs bonded warehouse to facilitate gateway
cargo movements linked to Vizhinjam.
MEDLOG, part of the MSC Group, provides inland logistics services
covering transportation, container depots, CFS operations, warehousing and
multimodal logistics solutions, with a network spanning more than 90
countries. The development assumes
added significance amid MSC Group’s growing presence in Kerala’s maritime
sector. In June 2026, MSC Group announced plans to acquire a 49% stake in
Vizhinjam, subject to regulatory approvals, in a transaction valued at
approximately $1.4 billion. A
potential MEDLOG container movement through Kollam could therefore add another
logistics node to southern Kerala’s evolving port network and provide
additional connectivity to the Vizhinjam container ecosystem. However, the proposed MEDLOG–Kollam
movement remains at the exploration and planning stage. Based on publicly
available information reviewed, no regular MEDLOG service or sailing schedule
through Kollam Port has been formally announced.
