The International Tamil Engineers Forum in UAE successfully hosted its flagship Integrated Engineering Connect 2026 on 17 October 2026 at the Millennium Plaza Downtown Hotel, Dubai. The full-day, blockbuster event brought together over 600 engineering professionals, senior government officials and industry executives across the Energy, Construction and Technology sectors. Representing the global marine engineering fraternity with distinction was Nikeel Idnani, the Honorary Secretary of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST) UAE branch, who captivated the audience with a powerful blueprint for immediate maritime decarbonization.
In his inspiring presentation, "ENGINEERING THE FUTURE VOYAGE," Idnani directly tackled the shipping industry's most critical challenge: managing over 80% of world trade while accounting for 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Faced with strict regulatory metrics e.g. EEXI and CII, Idnani shifted the narrative away from distant, expensive solutions toward immediate, actionable engineering.
While transitioning the global fleet to alternative fuels remains slow and demands a staggering $1.5 trillion investment, Idnani championed a brilliant, immediate alternative: reducing hydrodynamic friction. He demonstrated that maintaining a smooth hull can improve power efficiency by up to 18%, lower speed loss and drastically cut fuel burn.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we don't have to wait for a trillion-dollar fuel revolution to start protecting our planet and our profits," Idnani concluded to resounding applause. His leadership continues to elevate the IMarEST profile regionally, proving that marine engineers are actively delivering the practical, high-impact solutions the world needs today.
