Established in 2010, MMCT holds the distinction of
being Karnataka’s first and only Directorate General of Shipping (DGS)-approved
marine college. The 15-year-old institution, part of the CMC Group of
Institutions, has undergone a comprehensive transformation to meet
international maritime training standards.
Speaking to
reporters on Tuesday, S. Shyamsundar, Regional Director, CMC Group of
Institutions, said the upgrades include a full mission bridge room, engine
room, steering, and LNG bunkering simulators, along with several other advanced
learning tools. MMCT has fully transitioned from offering
VTU-affiliated engineering courses to exclusively providing marine-related
programmes. The college currently offers four DGS-approved courses — Graduate
Marine Engineering (GME), Electro Technical Officer (ETO), Diploma in Nautical
Science (DNS), and General Purpose Rating (GP Rating).
The institution also boasts a fully residential campus
equipped with a “ship-in-campus” training setup, operational main and auxiliary
engines, marine workshops, smart classrooms, digital library, swimming pool,
and newly renovated hostel facilities.
Backed by
sponsorships from shipping companies operating worldwide, MMCT currently trains
over 200 students and has produced more than 2,400 alumni serving in the global
maritime sector.
With its latest upgrade, MMCT aims to strengthen its
position as a premier maritime training hub in South India, aligning with
India’s growing emphasis on skill development and maritime excellence.
