Israeli strikes in
the vicinity of the Iranian port city largely focused on military targets,
including missile sites and installations, and did not reportedly strike the
Shahid Beheshti terminal itself. Imagery indicates that any impacts were
concentrated at nearby facilities rather than the commercial port
infrastructure where India’s interests lie.
Chabahar — located
on Iran’s southeastern coast on the Gulf of Oman — serves as a key maritime
gateway for India’s trade with Afghanistan and Central Asia, offering an
alternative route that bypasses Pakistan. India’s involvement dates back to early agreements with Iran, and in
recent years Indian entities have developed cargo handling capacity and signed
long-term operational arrangements for the terminal. Despite
the military activity nearby, cargo handling and operations at the port’s
India-backed freight terminal have continued, and there have been no confirmed
reports of casualties or direct infrastructure damage at the facility.
The development is
seen as a positive amid uncertainty in the region, underscoring the resilience
of commercial maritime infrastructure even as geopolitical tensions persist.
