The highlight of the
showcase was the arrival of Energy Observer, recognized as the world's first
self-sufficient hydrogen-powered vessel and a floating renewable energy
laboratory. The vessel docked at the port specifically for this event.
Attendees participated
in three rotating sessions that provided hands-on experience with hydrogen
production, storage, and dispensing technologies. These sessions also included
guided tours of a nearby hydrogen production facility and the ongoing
construction of the Lower Thames Crossing. Demonstrations featured a range of
practical hydrogen solutions, including hydrogen-powered vehicles and
generators, refuelling systems, and off-grid power applications. These
showcased the diverse ways hydrogen can be deployed in industrial and port
settings.
The showcase builds upon a recent agreement between
GeoPura and Forth Ports, the owner and operator of the Port of Tilbury, to
establish an on-site green hydrogen production facility. This collaboration
marks Tilbury as the first UK port capable of supporting commercial-scale
hydrogen production for heavy industry.
Furthermore, this
initiative aligns with GeoPura's agreement to supply green hydrogen to the
Lower Thames Crossing project, which represents the largest volume of hydrogen
contracted for a UK construction project to date.
