The state already has six operational airports, including
Visakhapatnam International Airport, Vijayawada International Airport, Tirupati
Airport, Rajahmundry Airport, Kadapa Airport and Kurnool Airport (Orvakal). The
new airports are planned to be built in locations including Kuppam, Dagadarthi,
Srikakulam, Tadepalligudem, Nagarjuna Sagar, Tuni-Annvaram, Ongole, Palasa and
Amaravati (near Ravela in Tadikonda mandal).
The Srikakulam airport, which has completed its
feasibility survey, will be developed in two phases over 1,383 acres, with land
acquisition currently in progress. The Dagadarthi airport will be built on
1,379 acres, of which 635 acres have already been acquired. Other proposed
locations include Kuppam (1,501 acres), Nagarjuna Sagar (1,670 acres),
Tadepalligudem (1,123 acres), Ongole (657 acres), Tuni-Annvaram (757 acres) and
Palasa (1,383 acres).
The Amaravati
greenfield international airport project, considered a game-changer for the
capital region, will be developed over 4,618 acres near Ravela with an
estimated first-phase investment of ₹3,409 crore. The airport is designed to
place the capital region on the international aviation map and significantly
boost regional connectivity and economic growth. The Bhogapuram Airport (Alluri Sitarama
Raju International Airport), also under construction in Vizianagaram district,
is expected to commence operations by July 2026 at a first-phase cost of ₹45.92
billion. Once operational, it is expected to reduce passenger traffic at
Visakhapatnam Airport.
