The New Geography of Global Trade Favors India - Article by Maj Gen Shamsher Singh Ahlawat, Advisor, NLDSL

The worldwide trade is moving into a new phase characterized by resilience, diversification, and collaboration. As companies reexamine their supply chains, they will diversify their sourcing strategies and look for reliable partners in manufacturing. Thanks to the recent changes in policies, infrastructure, and digital development, India is becoming a good candidate for global trade and production.

Introduction

Today’s global trade is changing radically and tremendously in the last few years. Different geopolitical events, interruptions in supply chains, shifting patterns in consumers’ markets, and the importance of developing flexibility in this area have led companies to reconsider their conventional methods of manufacturing and sourcing goods. Instead of using a single region for these processes, many companies switched to diversified supply chain strategies and focused on reliability, connectivity, and sustainability.

Our world’s changing environment creates enormous opportunities for India. With its rapid economic growth, rapidly growing manufacturing industry, good trade partnerships, and constant improvements in logistics infrastructure, India is better and better suited to playing a role of a reliable player in the global trade networks. Moreover, the improvement of digital ecosystems and the possibilities provided by the digital technologies lead to better integration, transparency, and competitiveness of India’s trade system.
