The First Sub-Committee of the
Committee of Parliament on Official Language conducted an inspection of the
Indian Maritime University (IMU), Kolkata Campus recently to review the
implementation of the Official Language Policy and the progressive use of Hindi
in official work.
The Parliamentary delegation
was led by Shri Bhartruhari Mahtab, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha)
and Deputy Chairman of the Committee, and Dr. Dinesh Sharma, Hon’ble Member of
Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Convener of the First Sub-Committee. The
delegation also included Shri Satyapal Brahmachari, Shri Kishori Lal Sharma,
Shri Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, and other Hon’ble Members of Parliament and
senior officers of the Committee Secretariat.
During the inspection, the
Committee reviewed the implementation of the official language policy at IMU.
While appreciating the initiatives undertaken by IMU Kolkata Campus towards
promoting the progressive use of Hindi in official work, the Hon’ble members
provided valuable guidance and suggestions for further strengthening the use of
the official language.
The inspection was attended by
Dr. Malini V. Shankar, Vice Chancellor, Indian Maritime University; Dr. Rajoo
Balaji, Pro Vice Chancellor; Shri K. Saravanan, Registrar; Rear Admiral (Retd.)
Amit Bose, Director, IMU Kolkata Campus; along with other officers and staff of
IMU. Reaffirming its commitment to the objectives of the official language
policy, IMU Kolkata Campus expressed its resolve to further promote the use of
Hindi in official correspondence, administration and day-to-day functioning
while continuing to uphold excellence in maritime education, training and research.
