RCL books four more container ships at Huangpu-Wenchong
The signing took place on the same day that Huangpu
Wenchong hosted a naming ceremony for three 4,488 teu container vessels built
for RCL, with one of the ships delivered to the carrier on-site. This latest contract award brings RCL’s
total container ship newbuilding portfolio at Huangpu Wenchong to 16 vessels,
covering three distinct vessel types: eight 4,488 teu boxships, four 1,900 teu
feeder vessels and the newly contracted four 3,100 teu "Honghu" units. RCL is the world’s 23rd largest container
line according to analyst Alphaliner with 32 vessels and combined capacity pf
91,433 teu. The company’s capacity is set more than double with 28 newbuildings
on order with a total capacity of 143,852 teu, representing 157.3% of its
existing fleet.
As the end of July, Huangpu Wenchong has recorded
30 cumulative deliveries, with 44 vessels remaining on the yard’s orderbook.
