APM Terminals and Vietnam’s Hateco
Group have signed a $1.7 billion agreement to develop a new container terminal
in Da Nang, marking a major investment in the country’s port infrastructure and
regional trade capacity. The project is expected to strengthen Da Nang’s
position as a strategic maritime gateway in central Vietnam.
The planned terminal will enhance
cargo handling capabilities, improve vessel turnaround times, and support
growing container volumes driven by Vietnam’s expanding manufacturing and
export sectors. Once completed, the facility is expected to accommodate larger
vessels and improve connectivity with key global shipping routes.
Industry observers said the
partnership combines APM Terminals’ global port operating expertise with Hateco
Group’s local market strength, creating a strong platform for long-term growth.
The investment also reflects rising international confidence in Vietnam as a
supply chain hub amid shifting production trends in Asia.
Analysts noted that the Da Nang
terminal could play a significant role in easing regional congestion,
attracting new shipping services, and boosting trade-linked economic
development across central Vietnam.
