During a visit to
the expressway corridor in Karnataka’s Devanahalli under the Pragati Path
Yatre Darshan programme, Sitharaman described the greenfield project as a
key infrastructure initiative being developed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana
Phase-I. The expressway is designed to provide high-speed and seamless
connectivity between Bengaluru and Chennai, two of India’s most important
economic and industrial centres. The
Finance Minister noted that the corridor will improve access to major
industrial clusters including Hoskote, Malur, Bangarpet, the Narasapura
Industrial Area, and the Aerospace and Defence Parks. It will also enhance
connectivity to the proposed Multimodal Logistics Park at Dobbaspet through the
Bengaluru Ring Road network. Calling
it one of the flagship infrastructure projects of Prime Minister Narendra
Modi-led government, Sitharaman said the expressway has been identified as a
priority corridor under the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor initiative,
aimed at promoting industrial development and regional economic integration.
The Karnataka section of the expressway covers
approximately 71 km and has been divided into three construction packages:
Hoskote–Malur (26.4 km), Malur–Bangarpet (27.1 km), and Bangarpet–Bethamangala
(17.5 km). According to the Finance Minister, projects such as the
Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway demonstrate the government’s commitment to
developing world-class transport infrastructure, improving logistics
efficiency, and accelerating economic growth across southern India.
