The vessel’s safe passage comes during the current
phase of heightened security concerns in the region, with SCI becoming the
first Indian shipping company to resume vessel transits through the Strait of
Hormuz following the onset of the crisis. The achievement highlights the company’s
commitment to maintaining the continuity of India’s maritime trade despite
challenging operating conditions. Adding symbolic significance to the voyage,
MT Desh Suraksha began its transit on the eve of the Day of the
Seafarer, paying tribute to the courage, resilience, and professionalism of
Indian seafarers serving aboard merchant vessels in high-risk waters. SCI
credited the successful operation to the coordinated support and guidance of
the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, the Directorate General of
Shipping, local authorities, and the collective efforts of the vessel’s Master,
Chief Engineer, officers, crew, and other stakeholders. The successful transit reinforces
confidence in the resilience of India’s maritime sector and underscores the
critical role played by Indian seafarers in ensuring uninterrupted global trade
through one of the world’s most important energy and shipping corridors.
