Its successful transit comes
as shipping activity in the area gradually resumes, even though the security
situation remains sensitive. The vessel’s safe passage is being seen as an
important development for India-linked cargo movement through one of the
world’s most strategically vital sea lanes.
Authorities have also noted that several other Indian vessels continue
to remain in the Persian Gulf west of the strait. In total, 15 vessels of
Indian interest are still stranded there and have been identified for
evacuation, including energy cargo, fertiliser-carrying and other Indian-linked
ships. The broader shipping picture
shows some improvement, with more cargo-bound vessels transiting the strait in
recent weeks. Even so, maritime agencies continue to monitor the situation
closely because the region has seen attacks on merchant ships and elevated
threat levels. For India, the smooth movement
of APJ Priti 2 is significant because fertiliser imports are essential for
agricultural supply chains. A safe and timely transit helps ease pressure on
logistics planning and supports the steady flow of critical cargo into the
country.
