Ningbo Ocean Shipping has officially sealed a
newbuilding deal for four firm orders plus two optional orders of 1,900 teu
feeder container ships with Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry, a subsidiary
of China State Shipbuilding
Corporation (CSSC). The vessels are a purpose-built design for domestic coastal and
near-sea short-distance container trades, the new vessels fully meet the latest
EEXI and CII global maritime environmental standards. The newbuildsare
scheduled for phased delivery to Ningbo Ocean between 2028 and 2029. Designed
by Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute (SDARI), the 1,900
teu container ships feature an overall length of 171.95 meters and a moulded
breadth of 27.5 meters. The design is
optimised for the shallow-water ports and constrained waterways prevalent across
Asian regional shipping routes, the vessels deliver outstanding advantages in
fuel economy, operational efficiency and cargo loading capacity. They also
comply with Phase III EEDI green energy efficiency criteria, the new generation
feeder ships set a high standard for eco-friendly and intelligent short-sea
container vessel development.
Ningbo Ocean Shipping
stated that, the newbuilding project is a well-considered strategic move that
aligns closely with the company’s long-term development goals and daily
operational needs. The fleet expansion and upgrading initiative will
effectively optimize the company’s vessel structure, improve operational
efficiency, and further consolidate its core competitive strengths in the
global container shipping market.
Earlier in August 2026, Ningbo Ocean Shipping launched its maiden ro-ro
service to Europe, marking the carrier’s official entry into the international
ro-ro transportation sector with its dedicated ro-ro vessel deployment.
