The Minister
flagged off two CNG-operated self-propelled road sweeping machines, marking a
major step towards strengthening mechanised and eco-friendly cleaning
operations within the Port premises. The induction of these modern machines
underscores the Port’s commitment to sustainable practices, enhanced
operational efficiency, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness in
alignment with national environmental objectives.
Further reinforcing the Port’s development vision,
Shri Sonowal laid the foundation stone for the Korkai Retreat project within
the Port area. The proposed facility aims to complement port operations while
promoting maritime tourism in the region. Envisioned as a space that enhances
visitor amenities and community engagement, the project highlights Tuticorin’s
rich coastal heritage and historical significance as a prominent maritime hub.
On the same
occasion, the Hon’ble Minister inaugurated the All India Major Ports Football
Tournament at the Port premises, in the presence of Shri Susanta Kumar Purohit,
IRSEE, Chairperson, and senior officials of the Port Authority. The event
celebrated sporting excellence, with veteran national football player Shri
Orlando Rayen being honoured for his outstanding contribution to the sport.
Young athletes across football and athletics disciplines were also recognised,
reflecting the Port’s continued commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a
culture of excellence beyond maritime operations.
The day’s events
collectively showcased V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority’s integrated approach
towards sustainability, infrastructure development, tourism promotion, and
sports encouragement — reinforcing its role as a progressive and
community-oriented major port of India.
