The initiative, jointly operated by Dubai Customs and
Emirates SkyCargo, streamlined cargo movement through Dubai International
Airport Cargo Village and Maktoum International Airport Air Cargo Centre,
accelerating customs clearance, increasing operational capacity, and
safeguarding food and pharmaceutical supplies for the UAE and the wider Gulf
region. The enhanced logistics
system delivered a significant rise in cargo throughput during the first five
months of 2026. Total imported goods cleared through the two facilities
increased by more than 82%, rising from 26.56 million kg in January
to 48.26 million kg in May. Daily cargo handling capacity also expanded
substantially, with the maximum volume processed increasing from 1.24
million kg to 2.11 million kg over the same period. Dubai
Customs said the initiative played a crucial role in maintaining supply chain
continuity across the GCC. Between January and May 2026, the operation included
529 truck logistics trips,
transporting 2,636 tonnes of
essential commodities such as meat, pharmaceuticals, and general cargo to
regional markets. The authorities attributed the success to close coordination
between government agencies and logistics partners, supported by smart customs
initiatives including the Green
Corridor and the Shahin
initiative, which provide expedited clearance for priority shipments
such as food, medicines, and other essential goods. Customs and inspection
teams also operated around the clock, while additional inspection windows,
expanded field operations, and better utilisation of cargo terminal space
helped reduce congestion and speed up cargo processing during peak
periods. Abdulla Bin Damithan, Chairman of the Ports, Customs and Free
Zone Corporation, said Dubai’s response reflected the long-term vision of Sheikh
Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, which has made resilience, agility, and
preparedness key pillars of the emirate’s economic model. He said Dubai would
continue strengthening integration across its maritime, customs, and logistics
sectors to reinforce its role as a trusted global trade gateway. Dr. Abdulla Busenad,
Director-General of Dubai Customs, said the emirate’s ability to sustain trade
flows during a challenging regional environment demonstrated the effectiveness
of sustained investments in advanced logistics infrastructure and digital
customs services. He added that Dubai Customs would continue expanding smart
services in line with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 to further enhance
the UAE’s position as a global trade hub. Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior
Vice President at Emirates SkyCargo, said the partnership highlighted Dubai’s
ability to maintain global trade connectivity through world-class
infrastructure, strong public-private collaboration, and operational
flexibility. He noted that Emirates SkyCargo would continue investing in smart
logistics solutions and expanding operational capabilities to support future
trade growth and strengthen supply chain resilience.
