IMC and GMZ Sign MoU to Strengthen Maritime Cooperation and promote Trade between India and Germany
The Indian Maritime Centre (IMC) and the German Maritime Centre (DMZ) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 1 September 2026 at Hamburg during SMM to strengthen collaboration and promote Trade between the maritime sectors of Germany and India.
Mr Devki Nandan Sharma, Chairman, and Mr Arjun Ashok Chowgule, Director signed on behalf of Indian Maritime Centre, and Dr Reinhard Lüken, Chairman, and Dr Matthias Catón, Managing Director signed the MOU on behalf of German Maritime Centre.
The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from the Government of India, the German Federal Government, and the City of Hamburg, including Mr. Vijay Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India, Mr. Raakesh Natraj, Consul General of India in Hamburg, Dr Melanie Leonhard, Senator for Economy, Labour and Innovation of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Dr Christoph Ploß, Member of the German Federal Parliament and Coordinator of the Federal Government for Maritime Business and Tourism.
Commenting on the partnership, Mr Devki Nandan, Chairman, IMC said :
"The strategic maritime partnership comes at a significant time as India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is expected to take effect soon. For India, the partnership with Germany provides an opportunity to enhance trade and use Germany’s established maritime ecosystem & expertise to achieve its ambitious goal of “Vikshit Bharat”.
