The port was declared a Major Port under the Indian Ports Act, 1908 in March 1999 and was incorporated as Ennore Port Limited under the Companies Act, 1956 in October 1999, later renamed Kamarajar Port Limited. Kamarajar Port (originally known as Ennore Port) was officially incorporated as a corporate entity on October 11, 1999, and later commissioned for commercial operations on February 1, 2001.     Over the past 27 years, KPL has built its journey around trust, teamwork and a commitment to operational excellence.
